From: Assessing lava flow susceptibility at neighbouring volcanoes: Nyamulagira and Nyiragongo volcanoes, Virunga Volcanic Province

Fig. 9

Lava flow susceptibility in the western part of the VVP after combining the lava flow susceptibility maps of Nyamulagira and Nyiragongo volcanoes according to the two scenarios (scenario 1: WNya = WNyi = 0.5; scenario 2: WNya = 0.937 and WNyi = 0.063). Frame A and E show the resulting lava flow susceptibility map. Frame B and F show the difference in lava flow susceptibility percentile value compared to the maximum percentile value of the separate lava flow susceptibility maps of Nyamulagira and Nyiragongo volcanoes. Frame C, D, G and H provide a zoom on the area between the eastern part of Goma and Sake to highlight the changes in lava flow susceptibility in this inhabited area. Class boundaries are defined by susceptibility percentiles. Absolute susceptibility values for each class boundary are as follows: (A;C) 0th perc. (8.3 10-17) ; 40th perc. (7.0 10-9); 80th perc. (2.8 10-7); 95th perc. (1.8 10-6); 98th perc. (3.9 10-6); 100th perc. (1.2 10-4); (E; G) 0th perc. (1.6 10-17) ; 40th perc. (5.3 10-9); 80th perc. (2.9 10-7); 95th perc. (2.0 10-6); 98th perc. (4.2 10-6); 100th perc. (5.0 10-5)
